Ecology is a science that examines the relationships organisms have with one another and with their environment. Greenhouse gas concentrations, such as those of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and water (H2O), can directly and indirectly influence an ecosystem’s behavior and health. Gas concentrations, as well as isotopic signatures (e.g. δ13C), can act as indicators of ecosystem attributes such as transpiration levels or migratory patterns. Monitoring methods include ground sampling, ambient air measurements, and airborne surveys.
