The Fall 2024 Picarro Gas Conference, held in Amsterdam this year, brought together 56 leaders from 31 companies across Europe for three days of insightful discussions, hands-on workshops, and future-focused presentations. The event provided a platform for natural gas operators to explore the latest advancements in methane emissions management and compliance with the new EU Methane Regulation.

Day two began with opening remarks from Ian Dennis, Director of Operational Performance at Cadent Gas, followed by a presentation from Dr. Renato Winkler, Senior Director at Picarro, on the Picarro EU Methane Regulation Playbook. Renato's session outlined a step-by-step approach to help operators navigate the complex regulatory landscape, providing valuable insights just before he moderated the key panel on ensuring compliance with the new regulation. The panel featured industry experts such as Martin Cermak, former UN Environment Program OGMP2.0 consultant, and Rosemarie van Eekelen, Senior Director of Asset Management at Alliander. This 360-degree panel gave attendees practical advice and strategies to meet regulatory requirements while improving operational efficiency.

Attendees also had the opportunity to hear from Julien Klein, Senior Director of Product Development at Picarro, who shared updates on Picarro's software roadmap and tools designed to streamline compliance efforts. Workshops throughout the day allowed participants to dive deep into regional challenges and best practices, from LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) methods to emissions measurement and network safety.

Day three opened with a keynote address by Torsten Lotze from E.ON/Avacon, discussing the future of hydrogen distribution grids, a timely topic as Europe moves toward decarbonization. The day continued with live demonstrations of Picarro's handheld technology and concluded with a closing keynote from Alexander Balkanski, Picarro's President and CEO, who provided actionable takeaways for attendees to bring back to their organizations.

This event not only fostered knowledge-sharing but also strengthened partnerships, positioning operators to lead the way in methane emissions reduction and regulatory compliance.
