Ethylene Oxide saves lives every day, but you might not know it from media reporting and public perception. Data-driven regulatory compliance provide a critical foundation for demonstrating safety to the public, but this alone isn’t enough when the public messaging about EO exposure risk at extreme low concentrations is so frenzied. We will talk about these perception dynamics, and how the EO commercial sterilization industry can work better to portray a balanced and realistic view of EO’s risks and rewards to the public.

The newly promulgated regulations under 40 CFR 63 Subpart O have undergone profound changes from their prior version, through the draft regulation issuance and public comment period, to the present day. Amy Moore with Trinity Consultants would like to review these changes and discuss the unique challenges and array of compliance options available under the new requirements.
This panel will consist of 30 minutes of presentation and 30 minutes of Q&A to the panel.

The 2024 EtO NESHAP and FIFRA revisions will require more effective fugitive EtO emission mitigation, particularly in indoor spaces like office areas and control rooms. Sonata Scientific has developed a localized EtO control product with 99+% destruction and removal efficiency (DRE). Melissa Petruska will share the results of both lab and real-world testing that demonstrate its potential to help sterilization facilities meet regulatory standards and enhance workplace safety.

1:00 – 1:30 PM Presentation 3: Automating SWEL and Workplace Compliance from Chamber to Stack: Smart, Sustainable, Integrated Solutions for the new EtO NESHAP and FIFRA
Telstar and Picarro are working together on a single informational framework to provide fully-integrated solutions for monitoring and proving emissions compliance for the new EPA EtO NESHAP and (anticipated) FIFRA. We detail how this Smart Factory integration communicates critical parameters between Picarro’s Workplace and CEMS systems and Telstar’s SCADA. We focus on critical regulatory parameters like the 30-day rolling SWEL and ambient EtO action levels, and how integration allows users to monitor and even anticípate issues with compliance. We discuss how this approach is possible for new sites, and for existing sites where facility retrofits are being considered
